On Thursday night at the elegant Ritz-Carlton hotel in Washington, D.C., Clarabridge’s own Sid Banerjee was named one of Washington Business Journal’s Most Admired CEOs of 2014.

We at Clarabridge are pretty fond of Sid, so it would be easy for us to list a lot of things about him that we admire – from his devotion to public transportation to his enthusiastic use of Twitter (seriously, you should follow him).

But what about the big stuff, the stuff that makes major publications take notice and give out awards? Here are three big things to admire about Sid:

1)      He has an entrepreneurial spirit.

Sid’s career shows that he believes in starting good businesses based on good ideas. He was a founding employee at MicroStrategy, and he later started Claraview, a leading BI strategy and technology consultancy firm. Under Sid’s leadership, Claraview grew into a thriving services firm with over 130 employees without any outside funding. Claraview was acquired by Teradata, a leading data warehousing and business intelligence company, in March 2008. In part because of this entrepreneurial streak, Sid is no stranger to winning awards: he was named an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2005 in Greater Washington in the IT Services category.

2)      He gives back.

Sid doesn’t just believe in entrepreneurism – he teaches it. Sid serves in a leadership role with NFTE DC – the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, DC.  This organization inspires young people from low-income communities to find their paths to success. In addition to this work, Sid is also heavily involved with the MCCP Medical Care for Children Partnership (MCCP) Foundation, which funds health care for the children of low-income, uninsured working families in Fairfax County, VA.

3)      He has a vision – and follows through.

Sid had the vision for taking advanced text analytics technology and applying it to customer feedback. With that vision firmly in mind, he founded Clarabridge, leading it to be the first intelligent customer analytics platform on the market to incorporate literally any kind of customer feedback. He spearheaded initiatives to bring in new funding ($80M!) and to use those funds to acquire Market Metrix in 2014 so we can continue to innovate and expand. And what’s next? Whatever he has planned, we are sure he’ll carry it through.

Congratulations, Sid – and thank you for being someone everyone, within Clarabridge and without, can admire.

What does admiration mean to Sid Banerjee? “Honored.”
