The 2014 FIFA World Cup was a thrilling spectacle that included multiple extra time games, several shoot-outs, a few unexpected upsets, and one really unexpected biting.

And social media couldn’t get enough of it.

After the fun we had looking at the trending topics in the social world leading up to the World Cup, Clarabridge couldn’t resist the chance to keep following the conversation – and there was plenty to follow.  The Brazil-Germany semi-final match alone was the most talked about sporting event in Twitter history, and that’s just scratching the surface.

You can see our findings below. Here are a few of the interesting insights we uncovered:

–  The percentage of men vs. women discussing the games
–  Which words showed up the most during and after the Germany/Brazil blow-out (at least the ones fit to print!)
–  How the World Cup changed people’s feelings about Team USA – and the referees

Clarabridge captured who was talking, what they were saying, and how they felt about it, across the globe in multiple languages. If you’re interested in putting that power to work for your business, give us a call. We’ll be here, checking out SoccerNation.com, and eagerly looking forward to the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia!
