social media week new york

Beginning today, Social Media Week New York kicks off its 6th edition! We are proud sponsors of the event that is being hosted in 6 other cities around the globe (including Barcelona, Lagos, Hamburg and Tokyo). This year’s theme, “The Future of Now”, refers to the hyper-connectivity in our social world.

In 2014, technology has developed to a whole new level where we are “Always On, Always Connected”, and we can access any kind of information with just the click of a button. Social Media Week New York explores both the negative and positive sides of this disruptive evolution.

The New York edition will deliver a real ‘Campus Experience’ with ‘Masterclasses’ to acquire hands-on knowledge of some of the most important hot topics such as: ‘How to build wearables’. Social Media Week will host 3 stages named ENGAGE, INNOVATE, and CHANGE. Themes will range from emerging tech, the sharing economy, entertainment and storytelling to social innovation and civic society.

Attend Keynotes from the Most Buzzing Social Companies

BuzzFeed is what is called, “the epitome of a digitally native brand”. The company couldn’t exist without the internet and has redefined the sharing economy entirely. According to Social Media Week, BuzzFeed changed in 2013 “from experimental media laboratory to a profitable business”. To be honest, didn’t we all notice the buzz on BuzzFeed?

Toby Daniels, Social Media Week’s founder and executive director, will host a thought-provoking conversation with BuzzFeed’s CEO Jonah Peretti on original and branded content, data analytics, mobile apps, and which social platforms are most important for BuzzFeed’s model.

If you’re not able to make it, you can always join the live stream on Tuesday February 18 at 12 p.m. EST here!

Eli Pariser continuously explores how technology can elevate important topics in the world. He founded Upworthy with longtime collaborator, Peter Koechley, in March of 2012. They proved that what’s important can be incredibly popular even if popular isn’t usually important.

Upworthy’s CEO will host a keynote and interview with Derek Thompson of The Atlantic at the CHANGE Stage at SMW’s campus. The keynote is also available on live stream Wednesday February 19 at 9 a.m. EST. Join it here.
