Foursquare is enhancing its mobile app to give a boost to its usage. Two recent updates clearly indicate this.

First, they have tweaked Explore to make it easier to compare recommendations. When exploring a neighbourhood on Foursquare, you will now see more recommendations on one screen to make it easier for you to decide where to go. Just like before, you will see the ratings, the friends that have been there, specials and tips. If you want to get some more in-depth information, all you have to do is tap the place. Also part of their redesign is the fact Foursquare now shows you top suggestions for places in the neighbourhood as well as highlights, like new or trending spots.

The second update allows you to check in much more quickly. You now have three ways of checking in:

  • When you tap the check-in button and see a list of places nearby, just press and hold the place you’re at.
  • You can also long-press that button ‘looks like you’re near…’ on top of the screen.
  • The final possibility is the original way of checking-in, that allows you to add comments, include pictures, or share your check-in on other social networks.

This, of course, to make sure people keep using their app but also, as they indicate themselves, “so we can give you even smarter recommendations in Explore”.
